WILSON, Garnet Marshall – Passed away surrounded by his loving family, on November 16, 2014 at the Norfolk General Hospital. Mr. Garnet Wilson of Walsh in his 74th year. Loving husband of Madaline Wilson (Earls) in their 50th year of marriage. Devoted father to Timothy (Melanie Doerksen), Julia (Wayne Mansley), James (Heather Cameron) and Jennifer (Stewart Beak). Proud grandfather to Abigail & Jaimie Mansley, Samantha & Allison Wilson, and Maeve Beak. Garnet is survived by his siblings Renford, Wayne, Gloria, Barbara, Jack, Ron and the late Valerie. Garnet grew up in Lynn Valley where he was raised by his grandparents (Egbert & Julia Wilson). Early in his life with Madaline, Garnet was employed at the American Can. If that wasn’t enough, he moonlighted in cash cropping at their growing farm. Later, he started a successful mink ranching business selling through the Hudson Bay Company’s fur auction. When the worldviews on fur changed, Garnet’s gaze moved to the dirt and he went into market gardening. Famous at Simcoe and Tillsonburg markets for his “Fresh, Young and Dirty” potatoes; he had a loyal following. Garnet was an avid car collector. He enjoyed the social nature of markets and loved a good farm auction with evidence all over the farm. Garnet enjoyed fishing with his family and friends earning the coveted title “Kingfisher.” Friends are invited to visit on Thursday November 20, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the FERRIS FUNERAL HOME, 214 Norfolk St. S., Simcoe (519-426-1314) Where Garnet’s funeral will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. Pastor Marc Bertrand and Pastor Al Feere officiating. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Walsh United Cemetery. If so desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Heart & Stroke Foundation.
